Welcome Back Eagle Families!
School is just around the corner, and the Eagle Team is excited for another successful year. The strawberries planted by the students last year are producing numerous juicy berries, and the staff are doing much work to prepare their learning environments. Alice Birney continues the focus on solid reading and writing skills across all subjects through building strong, caring relationships. We work to create a place where each member of our community feels a sense of belonging.
Please join me in welcoming new staff to Team Eagle. Trisha Sanders will be teaching TK in Room A. Jeanne Wilhelm returns to teach fifth grade in Room 15. Aleka Munneman will be teaching second grade in Room 7. Danielle Davis will be our new Educational Specialist in Room 10. Monica Cifuentes is our new school psychologist. We also have some teaching assignment changes for the 2024-2025 school year. Mrs. Smart will be teaching Reading Intervention this year, and Mrs Rivera will join the first grade. Ms. King has moved to fifth grade. Nan Voss and Melissa Lefebrve will be leading our elementary VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) team. Mr. Ken and Mr. Vince will teach PE again this year. Ella and Cortney will return as our Community School staff, as well as Denise Williams as our social worker. Loren will be our BCBA full-time. We have three new monitors: Diane Knight, Jordan Williams, and Maritza Popoca. I look forward to watching this dynamic team collaborate around the unstructured time for our students. I am truly excited about our team this year, and I am committed to growing together.
Breakfast will be served at 7:40 am. Breakfast and lunch are free to all Eureka City School students regardless of income. You can find the school lunch menu and learn more about Food Services by clicking here.
Please note that school will resume a regular daily schedule (K-5: 8:10 am- 2:42 pm) with the exception of Mondays for teacher collaboration (K-5:8:10 am to 1:55 pm). The full bell schedule can be found by clicking here. We will continue using the same arrival and dismissal procedure. TK-1 families will use the South Street drop-off. 2-5th grade families will use the Utah Street drop-off. If you would like to walk your student to his/her classroom, please park in the parking lot- not in the drop-off lane. Students are dismissed to classrooms at 8:05.
August 19th is the first day of school. PTA will be sponsoring a Popsicle Posting on August 19th from 2:45-3:15 pm at Alice Birney. TK/K families may visit classrooms to familiarize their child(ren) with the procedure. We look forward to seeing you come by!
I hope that you will take every opportunity to become involved in our Alice Birney School Community, through volunteering, joining our PTA, or attending and supporting school events. Please Follow the Alice Birney Elementary School Facebook Page to receive updates regarding upcoming events. Sign up with our REMIND app on your phone, so we can communicate more regularly.
As principal, my door is always open, and I welcome your input. Please feel free to schedule an appointment with me through our school secretary to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas you would like to share to support our continuous improvement. Let’s soar with the eagles!
